The Extreme Sailing Series is a thrilling competition that showcases the skills and speed of some of the world’s best sailors. Racing on high-performance catamarans, the teams face challenging conditions and tight courses in iconic venues around the globe.

Roman Hagara is one of the greatest sailors of all time, known for his passion, innovation and leadership. Among his most important victories:

• Two Olympic gold medals in the Tornado class, won in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, together with his partner Hans-Peter Steinacher. This makes them the most successful summer athletes in the history of Austria.

• Two world titles in the Tornado class, obtained in Kiel in 1987 and in Vallensbæk in 1999.

• Five European titles in the Tornado class, won in Breitenbrunn in 1990, in La Grande-Motte in 1997, in Alassio in 2000, in Silvaplana in 2001 and in Travemünde in 2006.

• The GC32 world championship in 2021, beating by one point the team Alinghi, led by the Swiss Ernesto Bertarelli.

• Extreme Sailing Series, a competition that sees the best sailors in the world challenge each other on high-performance catamarans. Hagara placed in the top 3 positions in 2013, 2015 and 2016, with the team Red Bull Sailing.

The team is composed of some of the best sailors in the world, such as Hans-Peter Steinacher, Rhys Mara, Dan Morris and Micah Wilkinson, who have joined Hagara in his quest for excellence and glory. The team is also known for its mentorship and support of young talents, such as the Red Bull Foiling Generation and the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.

The catamarans, called GC32, are equipped with hydrofoils, which allow them to lift off the water and reduce the drag. This makes them faster and more exciting, but also more demanding and risky. The sailors have to work as a team, coordinating their movements and adjusting the sails and the foils constantly. They also have to wear helmets and life jackets, as the boats can reach speeds of up to 40 knots (74 km/h) and can capsize or crash easily.
